High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a completely non-invasive treatment capable of delivering the closest results to a surgical facelift without surgery.

Using ultrasound energy HIFU targets the layers of skin just below the surface and the deeper Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) stimulating them to encourage the production of collagen which lifts, tightens and firms the skin.

Just one treatment can take as much as 5 – 10 years off your appearance and the remarkable results will leave you feeling fresh and more youthful. As HIFU targets the deeper muscular layers the surface of the skin is not affected so there is no downtime.

While some people see the effects of the treatment immediately, true results develop over time as collagen is regenerated. Changes become apparent after two to three months and continue to develop for up to six months post treatment. Results last for approximately three years.

HIFU is generally best suited to people older than 30 who have mild-to-moderate loss of skin firmness. The majority of people need one to two treatments but this will depend on your age and your skin. If you’re over 40 we recommend two treatments six months apart for best results. Skin will continue to age after HIFU so follow up treatments can be useful after 12 to 24 months to maintain results.

Treatments begin with a skin consultation to see if HIFU is right for you. HIFU is generally a comfortable procedure however some people experience warmth or a deep tingling sensation in the area where the ultrasound energy is being applied. Areas like the jawline can be more sensitive.

Everyone’s tolerance levels are different. If you have a low pain tolerance, over-the-counter pain medication prior to treatment can be beneficial.
HIFU takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes to treat the face 45 – 60 minutes to treat the face and neck. After treatment the skin may be slightly flushed but this generally resolves within a few hours. Some mild swelling, tenderness and tingling the week after treatment is normal.

We recommend you:
• Avoid direct sun exposure for 14 days after your treatment and use physical sun protection
• Avoid waxing or hair removal procedures for a week
• Avoid facial treatments including microdermabrasion, peels and facials for at least two weeks.
• Avoid exfoliating products for 5 – 7 days.
• Avoid strenuous activity, the use of steam rooms and saunas, hot showers, chlorinated and salt water pools for at 48 hours post procedure.
